The Results!!

Well here it is folks as promised. The new top 10 DJ's as voted upon in the DJ Mag poll.

01. PAUL VAN DYK – Non-Mover – Highest Trance DJ
02. ARMIN VAN BUUREN – Up 1
03. TIESTO – Down 1
04. CHRISTOPHER LAWRENCE – Up 10
05. DJ DAN – UP 19 – Highest House DJ
06. FERRY CORSTEN – Down 1
07. SASHA – Down 3 – Highest Progressive DJ
08. JOHN DIGWEED – Down 2
09. ABOVE & BEYOND – Up 10
10. DEEP DISH – Down 2

What does this mean? Well as we had predicted, PVD took the top spot again this year. But, there were a lot of surprises in this year’s poll. Christopher Lawrence at the #4 spot!! That is a huge jump from the previous year's poll in which he took the #14 spot. Also house hero DJ Dan up to the #5 spot is an astounding 19 place jump for him. Many people are going to questions these numbers, but really they all are pretty accurate when you take everything into consideration.
Christopher Lawrence may not be huge globally, but in the US, he is the number one booked trance DJ. He had a huge year in 2006 and his 10 spot ascent is a reflection of that. Also, Above & Beyond have been no doubt enjoying much success this year with a plethora of hot tracks pouring out of their studio and their Anjunabeats label churning out hit after hit. Their 10 spot jump into the top 10 is not only expected but also well deserved. Armin Van Buuren moves up 1 more spot to grab hold of the runner-up title. As mentioned before in our previous blog post, this is a well justified spot for him, and we are very pleased to see him move into the #2 seat. The real surprise though is DJ Dan. Dan has been a respected house DJ for years but has never been a global superstar. His 19 spot jump into the top 5 is due mostly to the massive year in the US he has been having. Both house and trance are finally moving out of the rave scene and more into the club arena in the United States. This migration from the underground into the semi-mainstream is a likely explanation as to why the two most popular DJ's in the US are now in the top 5 in the world. Is this the end of European DJ supremacy? Highly unlikely, but it is nice to see the States finally getting some recognition for some of their top artists.
If you are interested in the full 100 DJ's list you can find it in our forum under General Discussion. Congratulations to all of the DJ's in the poll, and thanks to all who voted this year!

Top 100 DJ's 2006

As some of you may be aware, Paul Van Dyk was recognized by Berlin authorities last week when he was awarded a medal of honor for his service to the state during a prestigious ceremony in his home town. In receiving this award Paul Van Dyk becomes one of only 400 Germans to achieve this special recognition. The award was presented to Paul by the mayor of Berlin, Klaus Wowereit. Upon receiving the medal Paul commented: “This award is considerably more prestigious than the other prizes and awards I have won to date.”

This truly is an amazing achievement for Paul Van Dyk, who is currently ranked by most polls as the number one DJ in the world. Later tonight DJ Mag will announce the results of its 2006 top 100 DJ’s. It is speculated by many that Paul will take the crown again this year, which would be an amazing follow-up to the Berlin Service to the State medal he received last week, and conclude a massive year of accolades. Others believe, however, that the top spot will go to Dutch superstar Armin Van Buuren this year.

Here is our take on the top 100: We feel that Armin is definitely due for the number one spot. The combination of his radio show, his productions, and his worldwide tours should warrant him enough votes to take the spot this year. But is this alone enough to take the votes away from loyal PVD fans? Probably not. PVD is coming off of a whirlwind tour, is dominating the trance scene right now and has already proven the top jock in several other polls. Why is PVD taking all the votes? Paul Van Dyk has, this year, added an unprecedented amount of dates to his world tour. This coupled with a Grammy nomination, multiple Dancestar Awards and four International Dance Music Awards (IDMAs) at the Winter Music Conference in Miami and it is pretty clear that Van Dyk is going to take the number one spot again this year. Although Armin has a solid following for his ASOT radio broadcasts, PVD will most likely take the title due to the large support of his fans gained in his colossal tour schedule. Either way, it’s going to be very close this year! There is even some talk that Tiesto, with his mainstream work on the Pirates of the Caribbean movie, may regain the number one position. So this year will be a very tight race! We will post up the new top 10 DJ’s for 2006 in this blog as soon as they are announced tonight.

Lucid Dream White Mix

We have a new Lucid Dream mix in the works. This new mix is going to be in the same vein as the rest of the Lucid Dream mixes, in that it will be mixed with the intention of portraying the color it is named by. In this new mix we will be playing some hot new tracks, some classics, and all with a crisp clean uplifting feel to them. In this manner, we hope to capture a "white" sound. The first two tracks on the mix are going to be remixed by us with the goal being a massive euphoric intro into the mix. Hope it works out! Let us know what you think! ;)
